#140hBerlin
Stills from a single channel video
Duration: 8 minutes
Edition of 10
So I made a video of footage from a 6-day performance last May (shot by Martin Hoorweg). I ripped off was inspired by the original shots from the Beuys video here.
One is available for sale (the other 9 are spoken for). I’m asking $500 for it. If you really want it and can’t afford that amount, email me at studio@manbartlett.com with what you’d like to spend and why. I’ll accept offers until Friday Nov 18th. William Powhida and Jennifer Dalton used a similar pricing method for a drawing they made for #classand I thought it was pretty awesome. But it requires that the collector (you) feel empowered. And you should! The “value” of work is set by a combination of factors. The first factor is usually what people are willing to pay. When you have a gallery doing business for you, they typically help you determine what they think people are willing to pay. Well, in this instance, I’m my own gallery.* And this is how I want to do it. Also a dealer told me recently that I need to raise my prices. I wasn’t really sure how to take that. If your prices are too low people won’t take you seriously, if they’re too high they’ll call you crazy arrogant. But that all depends on who your collector base is. Right now my base is a combination of somewhat-serious collectors, friends with a little money (some of whom would identify as collectors), and more broke friends. It’s really a very delicate balance, this whole thing. And, like teh Facebook says, it’s complicated. So the system should adapt.**
All of which has nothing to do with the actual video I made, which I happen to think is pretty awesome. And kinda funny. And it’s got a dope soundtrack. Which reminds me, I need to get back to tracking down the musician so if this DVD sells I can send him a percentage. Apparently he runs a flour mill somewhere in Africa. Also a large percentage will be for the project manager for #140hBerlin, who I am still indebted to. Thx Martin! :D
As always, thank you for your continued interest/support/tolerance. I wouldn’t be here without it. And I mean that quite literally.
xx
P.S. Happy 11/11/11. I love this day.
* Galleries, I love you! Let’s talk! :) xoxo
** Too confusing. It’s $500. Email me if interested: studio@manbartlett.com.
