This holiday season, a few dozen Americans received a very special gift: a letter explaining that their debt had been cancelled. The Rolling Jubilee campaign by Strike Debt has abolished $10,668,078+ of debt at the time of this post.
Strike Debt asks people to pitch in what they can, then uses the donations to buy up debt for pennies on the dollar. Instead of trying to collect on the debt, they eliminate these anonymous Americans’ debt with no strings attached.
In this short film on Creative Time Reports, Strike Debt depicts a typical American family under severe debtor distress. What do you think? Tweet at us @artistsreport and at @StrikeDebt.
Almost too hard to reblog this right now. I’m in full-on hustle mode to pay bills/rent.
I feel blessed to only have around $800 of debt.
And still, we often don’t know how good we have it…
