NO MORE BULL… #OWS
Last night I acted like a tourist and left the protests Liberty Plaza to visit The Bull. My friend/roommate/writer Dylan Schenker joined me. It was not easy as police had blocked off a lot of the surrounding streets. When we got there, police were guarding the sculpture like an idol. Which, it dawned on me, IT IS. Even if they are doing what they are told, it is still an idol they are protecting, desperately. Aspects of this idol might be totally ok, but, on the whole, it is now a very, very, deeply troubled symbol of the problems we face as a result of its worship. And let me be clear, I do not exonerate myself. I use an iPhone. I have clothes that were made in sweatshops. I often buy the cheapest food despite where and how it was made. Rather I am seeking to raise my own consciousness first, then looking towards how to change my being.

Moments after this photo was taken, an impromptu march passed by. You can somewhat follow the timeline on the Flickr set.
