Sure enough, my one and only #shakespalin contribution was featured on MSNBC’s Countdown the other night as one of two examples of the meme (see the video). A funny reminder that you never know when someone is going to use your public persona for something. Also funny because my feed is almost never about news or politics. In this instance, I was more excited to be making up using a word that rhymes with “nunnery” from one of my all time favorite plays. And for as often as I’ve seen/read Hamlet over the years (Branagh’s version changed my life, and I have a degree in Theatre), I’m not sure I ever knew that “nunnery” was also used as slang for brothel. How’s that for family values?!
For the record, in my opinion, Palin is an archetypal representation of a very scary vision of a mindless and reckless American present/future. A vision mired in fear-mongering and shameless ignorance being passed off as “honest American values.” THAT is not my America. THOSE are not my values. And in that regard I’ll take Obama’s rhetoric any day of the week. But I usually keep that to myself because quite frankly it’s divisive and futile to discuss. It’s also difficult to judge a presidency until many years after. …In the meantime, here’s to hoping we live past 2012! :D

P.S. Bonus. Because I rarely think about Countdown I couldn’t help myself. I’ve also been craving Arrested Development lately… xo
P.P.S. Because the screenshot included my Twitter background, which is one of my circle drawings, does that mean I can now say my work has been featured on MSNBC? ;)
